One week to go until our book is out! Nerves anyone? The process of writing and publishing this book has been so fulfilling for each of us and a massive learning experience. Over the course of only fifteen weeks, and ten newsletters, we have managed to string each of our stories together into one collection of narrative.
Cecelia Puckhaber knew what her story was going to be as soon as she chose her photograph. But, through the reporting process, this narrative took her places she never expected.
This isn't the full picture, this isn't the whole story.
Like the confines of a memory, this image is cropped. A small detail of a bigger picture and a larger narrative.
As we uncover more about each photograph, our stories will develop to complete the frame.
…
Cecelia’s mother is pictured here, walking down a serene path in Lugano Switzerland. She and her husband were enjoying a walk on a peaceful day of their honeymoon, far away from the responsibilities of back home. The couple were busy enjoying themselves, and had hearing nothing of what was happening back in New York, until later that night.
The date was September 11, 2001.
How will this young couple deal with disaster—together?
“It became less of a story about an event, but more of the relationship of two people close to me,” she said. “The reporting allowed me to understand their personalities and beliefs better.”
